New article on "Optically Induced Coherent Phonons in Bismuth Oxyiodide (BiOI) Nanoplatelets" published in Nano Letters

In our paper just published in Nano Letters we demonstrate in a pump-probe experiment that the excitation of bismuth oxyiodide (BiOI) nanoplatelets with femtosecond laser pulses generates coherent phonons. These induce a time-variant oscillating modulation of the optical density. The fact that all oscillations associated with the involved phonon modes are parallel to the stacking direction of alternatingly charged layers in BiOI is consistent with ultrafast charge separation in a built-in electric field between these layers. The directional charge separation is a very promising property for applicatons of BiOI in photocatalysis.
